Gangrel has stated that he believes WWE executive Triple H prevented his planned appearance at WrestleMania 39 alongside Adam Copeland. The former wrestler shared his views during an interview on the podcast Insight with Chris Van Vliet. He also discussed his subsequent work in AEW.
Gangrel said he suspects Triple H, also known as Hunter, was responsible for the decision. "I'm not sure, but I think it might've been Hunter," he said. "Some people said Vince, but I think it might've been Hunter. Somebody kiboshed it, you know what I mean?"
Copeland had attempted to arrange the appearance during his feud with Finn Balor ahead of the Hell in a Cell match at the event. Gangrel expressed doubt about WWE's stated reason that fans would not recognize him.
In 2024 Gangrel appeared in AEW at Double or Nothing, where he assisted Copeland against Malakai Black. He credited Copeland with organizing the opportunity through discussions with Tony Khan and members of the House of Black.
