The Indonesian government has prepared 35,497 transport fleets to serve the public during the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 holidays. Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi stated readiness of facilities across land, sea, air, and rail modes. Additionally, regional officials are prohibited from leaving their areas to maintain stability and prepare for potential disasters.
The Indonesian government is finalizing preparations ahead of the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 holidays. During a working meeting with Commission V of the DPR RI in Jakarta on Monday (December 8, 2025), Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi revealed that 35,497 transport fleets are ready to serve the public. "There are 35,497 transport fleets ready to serve the public during Christmas and New Year, covering land, sea, air, and rail modes," he said.
Facility readiness includes land transport with 31,433 buses and 117 terminals; sea with 704 ships and 69 patrol and navigation vessels; rail with 2,670 trains on routes in Sumatra, Java, and Sulawesi; and air with 368 aircraft and 257 airports. For ferries, there are 253 ships, 15 routes, 29 ports, and 72 docking facilities, with reinforcements on busy routes like Merak-Bakauheni and Ketapang-Gilimanuk.
Intensive checks have been conducted: 47,187 land vehicles tested for roadworthiness, 816 ships declared operational, 368 aircraft ready, and 3,333 rail units meeting safety standards. The Ministry of Transportation has issued 13 operational policies, including e-ticketing for passenger ships, airport fare discounts, and the establishment of Rail Posts.
The peak outbound flow is projected for December 24, 2025, with 17.18 million trips, while the peak return flow is on January 2, 2026, with 20.81 million trips. To ensure stability, a circular from the Minister of Home Affairs prohibits regional heads in Central Java and civil servants in Bandung from leaving their areas or traveling abroad from December 15, 2025, to January 15, 2026, except for essential duties. Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi emphasized monitoring stability and disaster mitigation due to high rainfall, with implementation of emergency response SOPs.
Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan added that the policy ensures optimal public services and inflation control during the holiday period.
