Governor Mwadime urges fulfillment of Tsavo revenue promise

Taita Taveta Governor Andrew Mwadime has urged the National Assembly to implement President William Ruto's promise to allocate 50 percent of Tsavo park revenues to the county. The promise was made three years ago but remains unfulfilled. Mwadime proposed joint management and revenue sharing.

Despite President William Ruto's promise three years ago to give Taita Taveta County 50 percent of Tsavo park revenues, the pledge has not been implemented. Governor Andrew Mwadime has called on the National Assembly to enforce it.

Mwadime suggested converting part of Tsavo into a national reserve with joint management and a revenue-sharing system. "More than 10,650 square kilometers of county land are set aside for those reserves, leaving residents with a small area to live, farm, and conduct economic activities, while the county bears the burden of human-wildlife conflicts including crop destruction, livestock losses, and even deaths," Mwadime said.

The request stems from a public petition by former County Assembly Speaker Anselim Mwadime. The Public Petitions Committee is expected to review the matter and submit its report to the National Assembly.
