Home Affairs Minister praises Belu weaving parade for preserving culture and boosting economy

Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian praised the Parade Tenun event in Atambua, Belu Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, on Friday (26/6/2026).

The event titled Exotic Tenun: Parade Tenun and Fashion Show was held at the Pelataran Mal Pelayanan Publik Timor-Atambua. The minister said the activity preserves the weaving heritage while encouraging creativity, the local economy, and regional tourism.

The minister stressed the need to protect weaving culture so it is not taken by outsiders. He also noted the event built confidence among students from elementary, junior high, and senior high schools who appeared wearing locally made woven clothing.

The minister hopes similar festivals will be promoted internationally to increase tourist visits and local revenue.
