Hong Kong's Environmental Protection Department has issued warnings to food stall operators for using paper containers with plastic linings during dine-in service.
Inspectors visited the food court at Dragon Centre in Sham Shui Po on July 23 and handed out multiple warnings. Philip Ho, a stall owner there, said he was shocked because he believed paper bowls were allowed.
The department clarified on Monday that such lined products are restricted to takeaway orders only. The food court’s shared seating means dine-in rules apply to all operators.
Ho noted that nearly everyone at the location uses the same containers. Operators said switching to approved versions would increase their costs.
