IEMSA evaluates IEC youth voter registration campaign

The Institute of Election Management Services in Africa says the Electoral Commission’s campaign to register young voters will succeed if two million youth sign up this weekend.

The national voter registration weekend ends on Sunday. The Institute of Election Management Services in Africa states that the Electoral Commission’s drive to involve young people would mark a milestone with at least two million new registrations over the two days.

Institute Executive Chairman Terry Tselane noted that many young South Africans remain unregistered. He said the effort targets those who see little benefit from democracy, noting most are unemployed.

Tselane added that the campaign aims to boost participation among this group. He expressed hope that the initiative will produce results.
