Eddie Jenkins, 45, faces first-degree murder charges in the January shooting death of his estranged wife Kiara Jenkins in Chicago's Woodlawn neighborhood.
Eddie Jenkins was charged with first-degree murder, attempting to flee an officer, and carrying a concealed firearm. Court documents show he drove to Kiara Jenkins' home at 4:30 a.m. on January 18, parked nearby, and approached on foot.
Neighbors overheard the couple arguing before hearing gunshots. Security cameras captured Eddie Jenkins running through an alley to his Buick Enclave and driving away. He then returned home and took their five children to church services.
Friends at the church noticed Kiara Jenkins was absent and checked on her. They found her dead in the backyard from multiple gunshot wounds. Eddie Jenkins was arrested on January 29 after fleeing a traffic stop.
At a hearing on July 1, a judge ordered him to remain in custody. His next court date is set for July 22.
