Kentucky woman admits shooting husband during argument

Heather Edens has been charged with murder in the death of her husband James Edens after an argument at their home in Cumberland County, Kentucky. Authorities say she shot him in the leg, leading him to drive away and bleed out in his vehicle. Edens admitted to the shooting when questioned by police.

On Tuesday evening, Heather Edens, 52, and her husband James Edens, 60, argued at their residence on Red Banks Road in the rural southern Kentucky county near the Tennessee border, according to the Kentucky State Police (KSP). Edens reportedly wanted her husband to leave and brandished a gun before shooting him, authorities said. The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a shooting and a single-vehicle collision, requesting KSP assistance. Troopers found James Edens suffering from a leg gunshot wound inside the vehicle, where he was bleeding heavily, as reported by Lexington Fox affiliate WDKY. He was transported to a local hospital but was pronounced dead there. Investigators interviewed Heather Edens, who admitted to shooting her husband during the argument. She claimed the gunshot 'must have glanced off the concrete,' police alleged. Edens was booked into Adair County Regional Jail on Wednesday and is held on a $1 million bond. She is scheduled to appear in court on April 22.
