Indiana man kills father and stepfather during home dispute

Easton Goode, 23, faces murder charges after shooting his father and stepfather in Greenville, Indiana, following a series of altercations at his mother's home. The incident unfolded early Thursday morning as family members attempted to assist him amid signs of intoxication. Police arrested Goode after a brief standoff, with witnesses including his mother present during the shootings.

The events began around 4:45 a.m. on Thursday in a home on the 6700 block of Georgetown–Greenville Road in Greenville, Indiana. Easton Goode's mother discovered him lying on the floor of his room, vomiting, and called her husband, Bradley Butler, 53, to help move him to bed. Soon after, Goode came downstairs and became verbally aggressive toward his mother and stepfather, leading to a physical wrestling match that ended with the two hugging and apologizing.

Goode returned to his room but later entered the bathroom, where his mother found him naked from the waist down and covered in feces upon knocking on the door. Another fight ensued with Butler, who restrained Goode in a bear hug in the master bedroom until he calmed. Hoping he would sleep, the mother contacted Goode's father, Kelly Goode, 55, her ex-husband, asking him to come over with his roommate to help sober up their son, who appeared drunk and out of control.

When Kelly Goode and his friend arrived, Easton Goode yelled at them from the hallway entrance, holding his side and telling everyone to shut up. The mother noticed her son had a .40-caliber Taurus handgun, which she had earlier secured in a gun safe from Butler's bedroom. As the father and friend approached, Goode shot Kelly Goode, who fell immediately, then turned and shot Butler, who collapsed from the couch.

The father's roommate fled, and the mother called 911. Floyd County Sheriff's Office responded around 5:45 a.m. Officers commanded Goode to exit but received no response. At 6:35 a.m., they observed him running naked through the house; seven minutes later, they breached the rear door, deployed a flash-bang, and arrested him. Goode admitted to the shootings during questioning.

The mother reported nearly being struck by a bullet, showing a hole through her shirt. Officers found the two men dead from gunshot wounds. Goode faces two counts each of murder and criminal recklessness by shooting into an inhabited dwelling and is held without bond in Floyd County Jail. A pretrial conference is set for April 16, with a jury trial on July 20.
