Indonesian minister warns against fake job offers on social media

Indonesia's Minister of Migrant Worker Protection (P2MI), Mukhtarudin, urged the public to be cautious of overseas job offers on social media. He emphasized avoiding unofficial opportunities, especially to countries like Cambodia and Myanmar, which are not official placement destinations. The government promises protection for deceived workers.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - On Wednesday at Jakarta City Hall, Indonesia's Minister of Migrant Worker Protection (P2MI), Mukhtarudin, warned the public against being easily lured by overseas job offers on social media.

"Our hope is that the public does not get tempted by job offers abroad, especially to countries that are not placement destinations," said Mukhtarudin.

He recommended seeking official information via the website https://siskop2mi.bp2mi.go.id, managed by the Computerized System for Placement and Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (SISKOP2MI). According to data from the site, from 2023 to 2025, approximately 4,000 Jakarta residents have been placed in overseas jobs through official channels.

Mukhtarudin highlighted countries like Cambodia and Myanmar, which are not official destinations for Indonesian migrant workers. "Also through unofficial companies that are not registered with BP2MI (Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Agency)," he stated.

Registered companies are considered safer as they meet requirements and are accredited. If Indonesians have already departed illegally and been deceived, the government will provide protection, assistance, and repatriation.

"The principle is, those who leave illegally, we bring them back. If they don't want to return, we force them to," Mukhtarudin asserted.

This warning aims to prevent scams and ensure migrant workers' safety through official routes.
