Mayors, the Procuraduría, the Contraloría and 53 organizations called Wednesday for respect of the presidential election results on Sunday, June 21.
Bogotá mayor Carlos Fernando Galán stated that defending democratic institutions admits no ambiguities. Medellín mayor Federico Gutiérrez noted that the constitutional order turns democracy into visible progress.
Comptroller Carlos Hernán Rodríguez warned that it is not possible to claim in advance that the country will burn. Prosecutor Gregorio Eljach said some have announced they will set the country on fire, but hoped more would be willing to put it out.
The Electoral Observation Mission and 52 civil society organizations issued a statement in Bogotá. They asked candidates Abelardo de la Espriella and Iván Cepeda for a public commitment to recognize the results and recalled that international missions validated the first round.
