Almtuna IS has appointed Jonas Almtorp as its new sports director, succeeding Nicklas Danielsson. The 42-year-old, who served as assistant coach last season, will oversee both the men's team and junior operations. Club director Tobias Pehrsson highlighted the thorough recruitment process.
Almtuna IS announced the appointment of Jonas Almtorp as sports director on Friday, following the departure of Nicklas Danielsson. Almtorp steps up from his role as assistant coach for the men's team during the past season, now taking full responsibility for the club's sporting activities, including juniors. Almtorp, originally from Uppsala, expressed enthusiasm for the move. “It will be fun and exciting to continue working with Almtuna, but in a different role,” he said. “A lot of positive things are happening in the club, and it will be great to build on that.” Almtorp brings a wealth of experience from a long playing career that included stints with Modo, Brynäs, Luleå, Södertälje, Djurgården, Linköping, AIK, and time abroad. In leadership roles, he has scouted for the NHL's Colorado Avalanche, coached Uppland's team in TV-pucken, and led Almtuna's juniors. Tobias Pehrsson, the club director, emphasized the careful evaluation of candidates with strong local ties and broad club experience. “We have valued this carefully in terms of candidates with strong local anchoring, broader experience of association life in Almtuna IS, and with that in mind identified this solution as the best for Almtuna IS both short-term and long-term,” Pehrsson stated. He praised Almtorp's history as a youth leader, junior head coach, professional scout, and recent men's team coach, positioning him to strengthen the entire sporting structure.
