Indonesian shuttler Jonatan Christie has set the Polytron Indonesia Open 2026 as a top target this season. He has never won the BWF World Tour Super 1000 event since debuting in 2015. The tournament is scheduled for June 2-7, 2026, at Istora Gelora Bung Karno in Jakarta.
Jonatan Christie, Indonesia's top men's singles shuttler known as Jojo, has voiced strong ambitions to conquer the Polytron Indonesia Open 2026. In a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, he described the tournament as a "wishlist" item and a main target for the year.
"Indonesia Open ini salah satu wishlist saya, untuk bisa menjuarai kejuaraan ini. Jadi memang ini salah satu target utama di tahun ini," Jonatan said, quoted by Antara. He added that preparations would be 100 percent across all aspects, learning from last year's early exit.
Jojo's best result at Indonesia Open was the semifinals in 2021, losing to Viktor Axelsen 19-21, 15-21. He reached the quarterfinals in 2023 but exited in the first round in 2024 and second round in 2025.
The event is sponsored by Polytron, serving as official electric car partner with the G3+ vehicle. Polytron Commercial Director Tekno Wibowo emphasized their commitment to innovation and badminton development. PBSI Secretary General Ricky Soebagdja called the tournament crucial for national athletes' home performance.
"Polytron Indonesia Open 2026 merupakan salah satu turnamen paling prestisius di kalender BWF," Ricky said.
