Karen Bass brother joins Palisades Fire lawsuit

The brother of Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has joined a class-action lawsuit against the city over the Palisades Fire. Spencer Pratt, who is also suing, welcomed the development on social media.

Kenneth D. Bass filed as a plaintiff in the suit in May. He seeks damages for the loss of his Malibu home along with claims of smoke inhalation, severe emotional distress, mental anguish and annoyance.

The lawsuit alleges that depleted city reservoirs prevented an effective response to the fire. Court documents list nearly 40,000 victims in the mass tort case.

Spencer Pratt posted on June 14 that he was “proud to be teaming up with Karen Bass’ brother in suing his sister for her reckless negligence.” The former reality star and his wife Heidi Montag lost their home in the fire and filed their own suit shortly afterward.

Mayor Bass declined to comment on the matter when questioned at a recent campaign event. She faces a runoff election in November against city councilwoman Nithya Raman.
