Kenneth Branagh expresses interest in directing another Thor film

Kenneth Branagh, director of the 2011 Thor film, said he would love to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a darker sequel. The Oscar winner shared his thoughts in a recent interview with Business Insider. He envisions a story that takes the character into a 'glorious twilight.'

Fifteen years after helming the original Thor, Branagh confessed a strong desire to conclude his association with the Norse god character. “Part of me would love to finish my relationship with that character,” he told Business Insider. “I’d always wanted to do more and indeed had a couple of ideas, more in the territory of James Mangold’s brilliant Logan. I would love to see Chris Hemsworth and the others have their own individual final story that takes Thor into a glorious twilight.”Branagh explained why he did not pursue a sequel immediately after the first film. “I definitely was ready for another, for sure, but not right then,” he said. “Marvel shoots are intense. Marvel postproduction is more intense — wildly exciting but super intense. I definitely needed to smell the roses. Kevin Feige was very understanding, and so was the cast. I needed a break.”While enthusiastic about a potential 'sunset' story for Thor and the cast, Branagh acknowledged uncertainties. He noted that Marvel's future plans are likely set, calling whether he would direct “a whole other question.” Following his 2011 Thor, Alan Taylor directed Thor: The Dark World in 2013, with Taika Waititi later helming Thor: Ragnarok in 2017 and Thor: Love and Thunder in 2022, as first reported by Deadline.
