To mark the achievement, James wore a player-exclusive Nike LeBron 23 sneaker in a custom colorway. The one-of-one design included eye-catching shades of purple and gold with a glossy, gradient finish fading from gold to purple, reminiscent of a Los Angeles night sky. Additional details featured iridescent elements in deep purple, gold, and deep blue that shifted colors depending on the viewing angle, along with a purple sockliner, blue laces, and thick blue stitching on the upper. The heel bore a badge reading "15,838+" to commemorate the record.
This colorway is not scheduled for public release. The Nike LeBron 23, James's 23rd signature sneaker debuted at the start of the season, aims to tell 23 important stories from his career through unique designs. However, it has received mixed reception in the sneaker community, with some colorways described as boring or problematic. For instance, the "Honor The King" colorway, a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King and James, faced criticism, leading Nike to limit its drop and withhold release in the United States.
Technically, the shoe includes a full-length ZoomX drop-in midsole for bounce, a carbon fiber plate for stability and speed, and a multi-directional traction pattern on the outsole. Special packaging with extra laces, a booklet, and a charm accompanies the 23 story colorways.
Earlier in the week, James's son and teammate Bronny James saw his first player-exclusive shoe released publicly as part of the budget-friendly Nike LeBron Witness line. More colorways of the Nike LeBron 23 are expected, with the Lakers positioned for the Western Conference playoffs.
