The Seattle Mariners beat the Boston Red Sox 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at T-Mobile Park. The win avoided a sweep and featured strong pitching from Logan Gilbert along with contributions from Dominic Canzone before an injury.
Logan Gilbert earned the win with eight strikeouts over seven innings. He allowed just one run on a solo homer to Nate Eaton in the third. Gilbert, a new father, remained in the game after a minor tumble near first base in the seventh.
Dominic Canzone provided early offense with a solo homer in the second, his first against a left-hander this season. He later made a diving catch to start a double play in the sixth before exiting with a right hamstring issue on an RBI groundout. Manager Dan Wilson said the injury is day-to-day.
The Mariners improved to 3-1 winners despite multiple roster injuries. Canzone is expected to travel with the team to Pittsburgh, where Randy Arozarena could also return from a similar hamstring strain.
