MCD signs deal with Oil India for two CBG plants in Delhi

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi and Oil India Limited signed a memorandum of understanding on Thursday to build two Bio-CBG plants that will process 800 tonnes of wet waste daily.

The plants will be located at Tehkhand and Okhla. A 500-tonne-per-day facility will occupy 10 acres at Tehkhand, while a 300-tonne-per-day plant will cover seven acres at Okhla. The facilities will convert segregated organic waste into compressed biogas and organic fertiliser.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Mayor Pravesh Wahi attended the signing. Gupta said the project offers a sustainable solution that converts wet waste into biogas and organic fertiliser. She described it as part of a waste-to-wealth approach.

Delhi produces about 13,500 metric tonnes of municipal solid waste each day. Officials noted that roughly 7,500 tonnes are already processed through existing waste-to-energy plants and one biogas facility. The new plants aim to increase treatment capacity and reduce waste sent to landfills.
