Memo Ochoa begins final training camp with Mexico for 2026 World Cup

Guillermo Ochoa has reported to the Mexican national team to begin what he describes as his final training camp ahead of the 2026 World Cup. The 40-year-old goalkeeper anticipates retiring after the tournament.

Through his social media accounts, Ochoa shared an emotional message upon joining the squad led by Javier Aguirre. “Today begins my final concentration,” he wrote. He emphasized that wearing the green jersey again is a privilege rather than a routine.

The goalkeeper, who has appeared in five prior World Cup editions, confirmed this will be his sixth and last. According to reports from journalist Fabrizio Romano, Ochoa plans to retire after the tournament. He added that he feels fit to fight for a starting spot.

Ochoa returned in March after Luis Ángel Malagón’s injury, though he did not play minutes against Portugal. Backup goalkeeper Tala Rangel currently appears set as the starter. Ochoa began his career in Club América’s youth system and gained experience across European clubs.
