The Italian fashion council has issued voluntary guidance asking brands at Milan Fashion Week to remove animal fur from runways as early as September. The move comes after activist protests earlier in the year and signals growing pressure on the industry.
Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana released the guidance late last week. It encourages brands to avoid fur from animals raised or captured solely for that purpose, such as mink and fox, while allowing items like wool and vintage fur. The council described the document as an advocacy tool that preserves brands' creative freedom.
The announcement follows protests in March during Milan Fashion Week, when activists from the Coalition to Abolish the Fur Trade demonstrated outside shows including Giorgio Armani and Fendi, calling for a full ban on fur. Several other fashion weeks have already implemented fur-free policies.
