Minnesota man charged after alleged campground car assault

A 53-year-old man faces assault charges after allegedly attempting to run over two campground employees with his car in Minnesota. The incident occurred at Saint Croix Bluffs Regional Park on July 14.

Michael Brian Fritz is charged with two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and one count of fleeing a police officer. Deputies from the Washington County Sheriff's Office responded to the park around 1 p.m. on July 14 after receiving reports of a disturbance.

The employees, a husband and wife working at the campsite, said they heard Fritz arguing with his girlfriend. They reported that he drove his maroon sedan directly at them, coming within feet of hitting both before they hid behind a tree. A camper witnessed the event and confirmed their account.

Fritz told deputies he was upset because the employees were looking at his campsite. He denied intending to run anyone over. Officers arrested him following a brief foot pursuit. He has since posted a $10,000 bond.

His next court date is set for Sept. 16.
