Mirra Andreeva withdraws from Berlin Open to rest ahead of Wimbledon

Mirra Andreeva has pulled out of the Berlin Open following her French Open victory. The decision comes as the 19-year-old seeks recovery time before the grass-court season. Belinda Bencic also withdrew from the event due to injury.

Mirra Andreeva announced her withdrawal from the Berlin Open on June 11. She cited the need for additional rest after a demanding clay-court schedule that included winning the French Open title.

"My team and I have decided to take more time to rest, recover, and better prepare for grass," Andreeva said in a statement. "I’ll miss the time in Berlin. Hope to be back next year."

The Berlin Tennis Open confirmed the news and wished her well for the remainder of the season. Andreeva had played 25 singles matches and 10 doubles matches across five clay tournaments this spring.

Belinda Bencic also withdrew from the Berlin Open after sustaining a right ankle injury. The Swiss player said she needs time to heal before Wimbledon begins later this month.
