Muturi calls on IEBC to halt 2027 elections plan

Former Attorney General Justin Muturi has called on the IEBC to suspend the launch of its Elections Operations Plan, citing a lack of adequate public consultation.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, Muturi said the plan was developed without adequate consultation with citizens. He urged the IEBC to initiate a consultation process involving political parties, civil society groups and other stakeholders ahead of the 2027 polls.

Muturi wrote: “Today, we call upon the IEBC to halt the launch of the Elections Operations Plan and initiate a genuine, inclusive, and transparent stakeholder consultation process.” He insisted that the cost of consultations is significantly lower than the consequences of disputed elections.

He also called for an independent audit of the Integrated Population Registration Database and greater transparency in the use of election technology.
