Novak Djokovic advanced to the second round of Roland-Garros after defeating Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in four sets on Sunday evening.
The Serb, ranked fourth in the world at age 39, overcame a slow start to win 5-7, 7-5, 6-1, 6-4. Mpetshi Perricard, ranked 83rd, took the opening set with his powerful serves.
Djokovic saved the second set on his tenth break point and dominated the final two sets. He had no clay-court wins this season before the match.
The record Grand Slam title holder will next face Valentin Royer, who defeated Hugo Dellien.
