A 41-year-old Ohio woman has been charged with child endangerment after an 11-year-old girl disappeared during a boat trip on Lake Erie. The girl and a 38-year-old man were later found dead in the water.
Kristen Gerrie was arrested last week and charged with one count of child endangerment. Authorities said the incident began when Gerrie, the girl Angelique Cunningham, and Jonathan Ciha left Meinke Marina in Jerusalem Township late Wednesday evening.
The child was reported missing less than 15 minutes after departure. Gerrie swam to shore and called dispatchers around 1:30 a.m. Thursday. Searchers recovered Ciha's body that morning near the Toledo water intake crib.
Angelique's remains were found Sunday morning near the shoreline by Meinke Marina. Both deaths were ruled consistent with drowning. The boat was later recovered empty near West Sister Island.
Gerrie was released on a $50,000 surety bond. She is scheduled to appear in court for arraignment on Tuesday.
