Pittsburgh Pirates ace Paul Skenes took a no-hitter into the seventh inning Tuesday night before settling for eight scoreless frames in a 3-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies.
Skenes struck out the first six batters he faced and retired the first 14 overall before plunking Troy Johnston in the fifth. Mickey Moniak ended the no-hit bid with a single in the seventh, though center fielder Oneil Cruz made a diving attempt that fell short. The right-hander finished with 10 strikeouts, zero walks and 98 pitches in the outing that lowered his ERA to 1.98.
