Announced on March 18, the commission aims to strengthen strategic analysis and long-term planning in the hydrocarbons industry. Pemex CEO Víctor Rodríguez Padilla will serve as its technical president.

Pemex announced the formal installation of the Petroleum Advisory Commission, an internal body to analyze national and international trends in the oil industry. Its purpose is to generate recommendations supporting energy sovereignty, supply security, and self-sufficiency in hydrocarbons, according to a company statement.

Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas took on the honorary presidency, a symbolic role providing legitimacy and technical expertise to decisions. Víctor Rodríguez Padilla will lead operational work. The commission will meet at least three times a year and includes experts such as Alicia Puyana Mutis, Ángel de la Vega Navarro, David Velázquez Cruz, Fabio Erazo Barbosa Cano, Fernanda Ballesteros, Isabelle Rousseau Chaigneau, José Felipe Ocampo Torrea, and Ramón Carlos Torres Flores.

The announcement came on the anniversary of the Oil Expropriation and aligns with recent sector challenges, such as hydrocarbon spills in the Gulf of Mexico.
