Víctor Rodríguez Padilla, former director of Petróleos Mexicanos, was detained on July 7, 2026, in Mexico City and transferred to Morelos, where a judge imposed preventive prison for the crimes of domestic violence and vicarious violence.
Rodríguez Padilla was arrested at 17:32 hours on Tuesday, July 7, in the Narvarte neighborhood. The detention was based on an arrest warrant issued by a judge in Morelos following the complaint filed by his wife, academic María Felicia Jiménez.
The imputed facts include physical and verbal aggressions that occurred in March 2026 at a residence in Emiliano Zapata, Morelos. A video of the aggression went viral on June 26.
During the initial hearing on July 8 at the Atlacholoaya prison, the control judge ordered the preventive prison measure. The former official will remain detained while his linkage to the process is defined.
The Morelos Prosecutor's Office is investigating charges of domestic violence and vicarious violence, with penalties ranging from three to seven years in prison according to the state Penal Code. Both prosecutors' offices, from Morelos and Mexico City, reiterated that no person is above the law.
