On January 31, 2026, around 04:30 a.m., an armed group entered a home on Río Salado Street in the Placetas Estadio neighborhood of Colima's capital and shot two women, killing them. The victims were identified as María Eugenia Delgado Guizar, 72, aunt of Mario Delgado Carrillo, and Sheila María Eugenia Amezcua Delgado, 49, his cousin. Both were involved in making and selling food and cakes from the same location, according to relatives and authorities.
Officers from the Colima State Attorney General's Office (FGE) and the Investigative Police arrived at the scene for evidence collection and inquiries. With support from the Coordination, Command, Control, Communications, Computing, and Intelligence Center (C5i), they analyzed surveillance footage and identified a light blue Chevrolet Groove vehicle used by the attackers. The car was located hours later in the Punta Diamante neighborhood, Villa de Álvarez municipality.
As security forces approached the home where the vehicle was parked, they were fired upon, leading to an armed confrontation. Three suspected perpetrators were killed, and an FGE agent was wounded but reported out of danger. Authorities seized weapons, the attackers' clothing, and a crowbar at the site, matching video evidence.
Mario Delgado, former Morena coordinator in the Chamber of Deputies, confirmed the relationship on social media: “Profound consternation, indignation, and sadness for the events that occurred this morning.” He remembered his aunt 'Queña' for her cakes and Colima dishes, and stated that “the case will be clarified and there will be justice.” Deputy Felipe Miguel Delgado Carrillo noted that the victims had reported property invasions that went unaddressed.
The FGE is investigating the case as a double homicide and possible feminicide, with a gender perspective. The incident highlights violence in Colima, one of the states with the highest homicide rates. Authorities have intensified operations, but challenges remain against criminal cells.
