President Prabowo Subianto stated that democracy is the best system ever tried by human civilization, even though the process is complicated and full of dynamics.
Prabowo made the statement during a meeting with young members of the General Elections Commission in Jakarta on Wednesday, July 8, 2026. He acknowledged risks and attempts to hijack the democratic process by certain parties.
Prabowo called on all elements of the nation to maintain trust in democracy. "We must not give up. We must continue to believe in democracy and keep striving to protect it," he stressed.
Earlier, Prabowo accompanied Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on a state visit to the DPR RI building. Modi's visit from July 6-8, 2026, is a return visit following Prabowo's trip to India.
