President Prabowo Subianto departed Jakarta for Moscow on Sunday night, April 12, 2026, aboard a Garuda Indonesia flight lasting about 12 hours. He took off from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base at 23:10 WIB and is scheduled to arrive Monday morning local time for an afternoon meeting with Putin.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya described the meeting as crucial amid global dynamics. "In the midst of constantly changing global dynamics, this meeting is very crucial," he said. The two leaders will discuss strengthening national energy resilience through cooperation with Russia, including ensuring a stable oil supply. They will also exchange views on world geopolitics and Indonesia's strategic position for global stability.
The Kremlin confirmed Putin will hold talks with Prabowo to review the current state of the Russia-Indonesia strategic partnership and prospects for deepening it, including international and regional issues.
This marks Prabowo's third visit to Russia after Moscow on December 10, 2025, and Saint Petersburg on June 18-20, 2025. Previously, the countries agreed to cooperate on new and renewable energy and peaceful nuclear technology. Prabowo is accompanied by Foreign Minister Sugiono, Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, and Teddy Indra Wijaya. His departure was seen off by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming and other senior officials.
