Proton Drive releases official command line interface

Proton Drive has launched an official command-line interface tool. The CLI supports Linux, macOS, and Windows and provides file management features with end-to-end encryption.

The new tool is built on the Proton Drive SDK and runs as a single binary. Users can upload, download, browse files, manage the trash folder, and handle content sharing through terminal commands. Output appears in plain text by default, with a JSON option for scripting. The CLI lacks built-in continuous sync, though users can schedule tasks using cron or systemd timers on Linux. Installation on Linux involves downloading the binary, making it executable, and signing in via a browser session stored with libsecret. Source code is available on GitHub for those who prefer to build from source. The release provides an option for terminal users ahead of a planned Linux desktop client.
