Racing Bulls awarded its single roll hoop upgrade for the Belgian Grand Prix to rookie Arvid Lindblad after he outqualified teammate Liam Lawson at Silverstone.
Team principal Alan Permane explained the decision process during a meeting in Austria. With only one upgraded chassis available in time for Spa-Francorchamps, the team turned the allocation into a contest based on qualifying positions.
Lindblad secured ninth on the grid while Lawson finished tenth, giving the rookie the narrower roll hoop for the upcoming race. The upgrade package also includes a revised rear wing, front brake drums and redesigned engine cover.
Permane said Lawson will receive priority if a similar situation arises later in the season. Both drivers agreed to the arrangement after consecutive points finishes in recent races.
The team has led the midfield since introducing a redesigned floor in Montreal.
