Red Sea issue gains prominence in global forums, Ethiopian minister says

Ethiopia's Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos (Dr.) stated that the Red Sea issue is becoming a major agenda in international forums and bilateral relations. He made the remarks during a performance review meeting chaired by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Dr.).

In Addis Ababa on Miyazya 14, 2018 (EFM C), Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos (Dr.) addressed diplomatic achievements since the incumbent government took office during Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's (Dr.) third 100-day and extended months performance review.

He described the Red Sea issue as Ethiopia's strategic anchor, now emerging as a major discussion in international forums and bilateral ties. Various actors are seeking collective solutions to the agenda, he noted.

The minister highlighted success in countering diplomatic pressures aimed at halting the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam's construction and water utilization. Becoming a full BRICS Plus member marks a significant diplomatic gain, he added.

Ethiopia has become a desirable partner for investment, economic collaboration, and cooperation, with many countries working to strengthen ties. He emphasized that these diplomatic outcomes stem from broader economic reforms and institutional strengthening.
