Karmijn, a former Grade A showjumper known for her speed, has retired from competition and is now helping train a three-year-old rider. The 34-year-old mare, also called Minnie, retired in November 2024 after a long career with owner Suzanne Posnett.
Karmijn and Suzanne won more than 1,500 Showjumping Ireland points together after the Posnetts bought the mare at age 13. She competed successfully across Ireland, England and the Continent until her retirement ceremony at Portmore Equestrian Centre, when her reins were handed to Suzanne’s daughter Ella. Minnie now spends time schooling and hacking with Ella, who grooms her and learns from the experienced mare. They competed in a cross-pole class at Christmas but have since focused on flatwork. Suzanne’s mother Pam said Minnie looks after Ella well and enjoys her new routine, including evening hacks. The mare has never had joints medicated and receives only Cortaflex for soundness support.
