Rumor suggests The Sims 4's final expansion pack is royalty-themed

Insiders claim that The Sims 4's 21st expansion pack will focus on royalty themes, marking the end of major content updates for the game. After this release, players can expect only kits and base game updates. The development team is reportedly shifting focus to new projects like The Sims Project X and Project Rene.

Rumors circulating in the Sims community indicate that The Sims 4 is approaching the end of its major expansion cycle. According to insider @phii_oda, Expansion Pack 21 (EP21) will center on a royalty theme, featuring three kingdom types, one inspired by Africa. This information surfaced following the approval of an EA buyout by shareholders in late 2025.

The insider noted that an earlier plan for a free African-themed world in the base game was canceled. As one leaker from June 2025 explained, "Maxis want to do more cultural worlds and have been trying for years to get a world based on Africa in the game, but higher ups at EA prefer culturally ambiguous worlds as they sell better." EP21 is described as the last significant gameplay release, with only updates and kits planned afterward. The Sims Team has not confirmed these details, instead emphasizing ongoing work on game stability and fixes for issues like corrupt save files.

A February 2025 official survey had teased potential expansions on themes such as cars, community careers, and suburban living, but insiders suggest these may migrate to a new base game. The Sims 4, now nearly 12 years old, is reportedly being retired due to rising development and QA costs over the past 24 months.

Looking ahead, attention is turning to The Sims Project X, an offline single-player experience with features like open neighborhoods, seasons, memories, and milestones, built on a new engine with enhanced graphics. It promises busier neighborhoods—up to three times more active than in The Sims 4—while being simpler in some aspects. This differs from the officially announced The Sims: Project Rene, a cross-platform multiplayer title for building, mini-games, and social progression on PC, console, and mobile.

Originally, Project Rene included a single-player mode, but experiences have been separated. For existing DLC owners, the insider hinted at continuity: "Sorta kinda, hold onto your packs, they’re not gonna be made fully obsolete." These shifts are rumored to begin in 2026, signaling a new era for the franchise.
