Sadie Dupuis has released the first three tracks from her upcoming Sad13 mixtape 1331. The songs each run one minute in length and mark her return to the project after several years.
The Speedy Ortiz frontperson wrote the material two years ago during a period she described as a mini nervous breakdown. She shifted focus from personal themes to experiences in her Philadelphia community.
Dupuis explained that the title 1331 reflects palindromes and mirrors, blending references to her teenage years as sad thirteen with her age of thirty-one. She performed all instrumentation herself, including multiple guitars, organ, bass, and drum programming.
In June 2024 Dupuis suffered a bicycle accident that broke her elbow and led to reconstructive surgery and rehabilitation. The mixtape 1331 is scheduled for release on July 10 via Exploding in Sound and contains thirteen tracks in total.
