Sam Heughan cast in geopolitical thriller Embassy

Sam Heughan, known for his role in Outlander, has been cast in the upcoming series Embassy. The political thriller stars Anna Kendrick and J.K. Simmons and centers on a crisis at the U.S. Embassy in London. Production is set to begin next month.

Sam Heughan has secured his first role following the conclusion of Outlander, joining the cast of Embassy, a new geopolitical thriller. The series features Anna Kendrick as Layla, a skilled American diplomat confronted with a dire dilemma when armed mercenaries overrun the U.S. Embassy in London. She must choose between safeguarding the U.S. Ambassador, portrayed by J.K. Simmons, or adhering to his directive to extract a valuable asset detained there.

As the plot intensifies, a broader conspiracy emerges, forcing Layla to trust her judgment and enlist the aid of her former fiancé, a British SAS soldier played by Heughan. His character, Connor Wright, is depicted as a seasoned, battle-hardened operator reluctant to assist initially. The narrative unfolds over tense hours leading to the extraction.

Embassy consists of six hour-long episodes, with filming scheduled to commence in February across London and Cologne, Germany. No network or streaming platform has been announced yet.

Heughan gained prominence as Jamie Fraser in Starz's Outlander, a time-travel drama entering its eighth and final season on March 6. His previous credits include the Starz miniseries The Couple Next Door and films such as Love Again, The Spy Who Dumped Me, Bloodshot, and SAS: Red Notice.

This casting marks a shift for Heughan into high-stakes action territory post-Outlander.
