San Francisco Police Department officers responded to a fire investigation call in the North Beach neighborhood around 4:12 a.m. PT on April 10. At the scene, they learned that an unknown man had thrown an incendiary device, identified as a Molotov cocktail, at a home, igniting a fire at an exterior gate. The suspect fled on foot, according to an SFPD statement shared on X. Officers arrested him about an hour later while investigating a separate complaint at OpenAI's San Francisco headquarters, where the same man had threatened to burn down the building.
