SC Freiburg reaches Europa League final for first time

SC Freiburg defeated Sporting Braga 3:1 in the Europa League semi-final second leg and reached a European final for the first time in the club's history.

Lukas Kübler scored the opening goal for Freiburg in the 19th minute in front of 33,700 spectators at the Europa-Park-Stadion. Johan Manzambi made it 2:0 before half-time. After a red card for Braga's Mario Dorgeles in the sixth minute, Kübler added a third goal in the 72nd minute. Pau Victor scored a late consolation for the Portuguese side in the 79th minute.

The final on 20 May in Istanbul will pit Freiburg against Aston Villa. Coach Julian Schuster spoke after the match of great joy and stressed that more steps remain. Matthias Ginter and Lukas Kübler highlighted the significance of the final for the club.

Freiburg had won the first leg 2:1 and secured all seven home matches in this season's Europa League.
