Sebastian Aho has returned to Swedish hockey after nine seasons in North America. The 30-year-old defenseman signed with Växjö Lakers earlier this week.
Aho left Skellefteå in 2017 and accumulated 190 NHL games along with more than 200 AHL appearances. He cited a strong desire to win titles as a key reason for coming home.
"It is time to win something again," Aho told Smålandsposten. He added that seeing friends win championships made him envious and motivated him to pursue success with a tight group of teammates.
Aho chose Växjö after positive discussions with sports director Henrik Evertsson. He described the conversations as aligning well on his role and how he would fit into the team's style.
The player sees himself contributing in all situations, including power play, and believes his offensive skills and experience make him a more complete contributor.
