Sweden's show jumping national team captain Henrik Ankarcrona has nominated seven riders to a preliminary squad for the World Championships in Aachen this summer. Henrik von Eckermann and Peder Fredricson are likely to feature in the final team of five riders plus one reserve. The squad will be finalized at Falsterbo.
Henrik Ankarcrona, captain of Sweden's show jumping team, announced the nomination of seven riders to a preliminary squad ahead of the World Championships in Aachen in August. Sweden aims to defend two golds from Herning in 2022, with the event also serving as Olympic qualifying.
"It will be an exciting journey all the way to the championships. This is a World Championship at one of equestrian sport's most iconic venues and it is also Olympic qualifying. A very important championship," Ankarcrona said in a press release.
The nominated rider-horse combinations are: Henrik von Eckermann with Steely Dan, Qasirah or Minute Man; Peder Fredricson with Alcapone or Vroom de la Pomme; Wilma Hellström with Cicci or Eleven; Petronella Andersson with Opaline; Amanda Landeblad with For Killy or Springfield; Angelie von Essen with Voila; and Thomas Ryan with Jezebeau.
The team will compete in five-star Nations Cup events in Rome from May 27–31, La Baule from June 10–14, and Falsterbo from July 9–12 before the Worlds. "Now we sharpen the form and everything is about finding the five combinations we believe will peak at the VM," Ankarcrona added.
