President Claudia Sheinbaum reaffirmed her support for the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement on June 11 during her morning press conference, responding to Donald Trump’s comments on possibly not renewing the pact.
During the June 11 morning press conference, Sheinbaum said the T-MEC benefits all three countries and is one of the main achievements of Trump’s first term.
“We want the treaty to remain in place because it benefits the three countries,” the president stated. She added that the agreement could help reduce prices in the United States if renewed under similar or improved conditions.
Trump said from the Oval Office that the United States does not need to renew the T-MEC because “we don’t need anything that Canada has, we don’t need anything that Mexico has.” Negotiations between the two governments will continue on June 16 and 17 in Washington.
