Jonathan Simkhai presented his resort 2027 collection with a focus on textural experimentation in event and vacation wear. The designer highlighted challenges in creating pieces for diverse climates while aiming for emotional appeal.
Simkhai experimented with signature materials including organzas, chiffons, leathers and knits, applying new fabric manipulation techniques. He created a juxtaposition of hard and soft elements, such as a butter-yellow knit dress twisted into rope-like strands and a blue and black dress with a chevron pattern that remained a single cohesive knit.
Dresses remained central, with guipure laces featured on streamlined strapless frocks. A cream sleeveless bridal dress incorporated shredded chiffon on the upper torso to resemble rose petals, paired with a built-in sheer jersey skirt.
Casual pieces included a wool-cotton blend trench coat with a high funnel neck and pleated back, alongside a black blazer coat adorned with leather strips. The menswear line featured slouchy bomber jackets, striped rugby shirts and pleated trousers.
"Resort is such a hard delivery to design for, because our customers come from so many different climates," Simkhai said. "You just have to create something that feels really emotional." He added that he is texture-obsessed and wanted to push fabric development.
