Sivakarthikeyan's Parasakthi sees sharp box office drop on Monday

Sudha Kongara's Tamil political thriller Parasakthi, starring Sivakarthikeyan, suffered a 70% drop in collections on its first Monday. After three days, it has grossed Rs 25.6 crore in India, and Rs 48 crore globally. This marks Sivakarthikeyan's lowest opening in two years.

Sudha Kongara's period political thriller Parasakthi, starring Sivakarthikeyan and Sreelala in lead roles, released on Saturday to sidestep direct competition with H Vinoth's Jana Nayagan, which faced delays due to Central Board of Film Certification issues.

Box office collections in India showed promise initially but faltered on Monday. It earned Rs 12.5 crore on opening day (Saturday), Rs 10.1 crore on Sunday, and just Rs 3 crore on Monday—a 70% decline from the previous day. The three-day domestic total stands at Rs 25.6 crore, according to Sacnilk. Globally, the film has grossed Rs 48 crore so far.

This represents Sivakarthikeyan's lowest three-day opening in two years, surpassing his 2024 sci-fi comedy Aayalaan (Rs 13.95 crore) but trailing his recent pan-India hits like Amaran (Rs 61.55 crore) and another action thriller (Rs 48.15 crore). It outperforms Kongara's 2024 Hindi remake Sarfira, which collected only Rs 12 crore in its first three days.

The film navigated its own CBFC hurdles, accepting 25 suggested cuts to secure a Pongal release window. It faces ongoing competition from Maruthi's Telugu horror comedy The Raja Saab, which has earned Rs 113.40 crore domestically across languages in four days, though its Tamil dubbed version managed just Rs 1 crore. The sharp Monday drop raises questions about Parasakthi's sustained box office run.
