SK hynix announced on July 29 that it achieved record revenue and operating profit in the second quarter, driven by strong demand for high-bandwidth memory chips.
SK hynix reported second-quarter revenue of 79.31 trillion won and operating profit of 60.54 trillion won. The figures represent year-on-year increases of 256.8 percent and 557.2 percent, respectively. Net profit reached a record 93.92 trillion won, surging 1,242.5 percent.
The operating profit margin hit a record 76 percent. This outperformed Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.'s 60.3 percent margin by about 15 percentage points. The company attributed the results to expanded sales of high-value-added products such as high-bandwidth memory.
SK hynix held a 58 percent share of the global HBM market in the first quarter. In June it overtook Samsung Electronics to become South Korea's most valuable listed company for the first time in 25 years.
