Hundreds of South C residents held a peaceful protest, halting business activities while demanding arrests over a 16-storey building collapse that killed two people months ago. They issued a seven-day ultimatum to the government to address safety concerns and official accountability. Key demands include investigation reports and action against negligent officials.
Residents of South C, alongside community leaders and activists, marched on the streets protesting inaction following the collapse of a building on Muhoho Road, plot number 68/1306. The incident claimed two lives and disrupted local activities, yet no arrests have been made.
During the protest, residents listed several demands, including the publication of investigation reports on the collapsed structure and the nearby Bridge Port building (LR No. 209/5909/9). They sought safety certification or a demolition order for the 15-storey Bridge Port, originally approved for 10 storeys and showing structural damage to its pillars.
They urged Lands and Housing Minister Alice Wahome to release probe findings immediately. Residents also demanded names of Nairobi County and National Construction Authority (NCA) officials who ignored three enforcement notices issued in 2025. "Negligence is a criminal offence, and it is time to hold individuals accountable," they stated.
Additionally, they called for a list of rogue developers and details on building audits since January 2026, including the number of inspected structures and those deemed at risk.
