Spain invests 431 million euros in AI and European Gigafactory

The Council of Ministers approved today investments of 431 million euros in artificial intelligence projects, including 300 million to bid for a European Gigafactory.

Minister Óscar López announced the contribution of 300 million euros to the European High-Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC). This amount adds to the 719 million approved last week to form the public-private consortium.

The consortium includes ACS, Telefónica, Banco Santander and Multiverse Computing, with the Sociedad Española para la Transformación Tecnológica (SETT) holding 48 percent. The project envisions centers in Móra la Nova (Tarragona) and San Fernando de Henares (Madrid).

Additionally, 107 million went to Multiverse Computing and 24.5 million to Attypics Photonics. López expressed optimism about the Spanish bid to the European Commission.
