Star Wars Galaxies Restoration III readies Shatterpoint update

The Star Wars Galaxies emulator project Restoration III is set to launch its Shatterpoint content update, introducing new mechanics to the galactic civil war system. This update aims to create a dynamic shared story in the sandbox galaxy through player actions. The launch is scheduled for tomorrow following the project's 1.0 release in 2022.

Star Wars Galaxies Restoration III, a rogue server emulator combining elements of the Combat Upgrade (CU) and New Game Enhancer (NGE) eras, is preparing a major content update called Shatterpoint. This variant of the classic MMORPG sandbox had its initial 1.0 release in 2022 and now focuses on enhancing player-driven conflict.

The Shatterpoint update centers on an adjusted galactic civil war system. It features a point-scoring mechanism based on crackdowns and uprisings, intelligence and counter-intelligence missions, supply line gameplay, and new flashpoints that emerge over multiple weeks. These elements build toward a pivotal shatterpoint event, triggered when four of the seven planets fall under Imperial or Rebel control. This leads to various types of final battles, resulting in "lasting scars" on the galaxy before the cycle resets.

As described by the developers, "Shatterpoint introduces unique content and mechanics, turning the sandbox galaxy into a shared story of escalation, conflict, and consequence. Whether you’re fighting on the front lines, running supplies through danger, manipulating intel in a cantina, or selling your loyalty to the highest bidder, you’re shaping a dynamic, breathing galaxy where you’ll make a permanent mark on the game world."

Additional features include an endgame prestige system allowing players to level up skill trees for activities such as crafting and PvP. Neutral players can join a new mercenary faction for PvP participation. Factional bases are being adjusted to emphasize PvE elements, while new PvP battlegrounds are added at Echo Base and Restuss. The update also incorporates various fixes and adjustments.

The Shatterpoint update launches tomorrow, providing players with expanded ways to influence the game's persistent world.
