Floods and landslides hitting Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra since early December 2025 have killed 914 people and left 389 missing, according to BNPB data as of December 6, 2025. Some 4,200 people are injured, while 52 districts/cities are affected, with damage including 105,600 houses, 522 public facilities, 405 bridges, and 1,000 other infrastructures.
President Prabowo Subianto held a limited meeting in Hambalang, Bogor, on December 6, 2025, ordering accelerated restoration of severed road access and electricity networks. "The President requests that within the next two days, electricity in all areas of the three provinces can be turned on," said State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi. PLN's CEO is instructed to complete recovery as quickly as possible to support BBM and logistics distribution to isolated areas.
The Ministry of Environment and Forestry sealed four legal entities on December 6, 2025, including the TPL concession area in Marisi Village, South Tapanuli, and three PHATs in North and South Tapanuli, for allegedly destroying forests in the Batang Toru DAS. Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni emphasized, "There is no compromise for anyone proven to damage Indonesia's forests." Eight other legal entities will be sealed soon.
